Newcastle United Relegated
Newcastle United, just got relegated. This happens to be one of those times that, if I had not grown up at all, I'll be getting down on my knees, put my little hands together and say a little prayer and it sounded like this, "Dear God, I just want a draw, one goal's all it take!". Well, I do recalled such prayers happening back in 1987, rooting for Michael Jackson to sweep all the puny awards available with his "Bad" album (in retrospect, an awfully corny piece) in 1987, and to a lesser extent (not having to be physically getting down on my knees, that is) in 1990, realizing that I actually rooted for Ultimate Warrior when he issued the "Ultimate Challenge" to Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI. (And if that prayer happened to sound familiar to you, please take the time to congratulate yourself for being such a wrestling geek.) Why yes, I was a wimpy kid. Back to the topic, after 16 glorious years in the Premier League and finishing at the runner-up position not once but twice, the much beloved Newcastle United crash and burn out in equally glorious fashion, under arguably their greatest hero ever, Alan Shearer's helm. Nonetheless, I salute and thanked Alan for this noble act taking helm with eight games left and the club that, I dare say, entertained soccer fans everywhere much more so than the so-called great and of course, rich clubs, with their attacking play, which is probably a point of ridicule at this times and age. And to the guys at Lock Stock & Barrel Pub, rest assured the mighty Toons will be back. With a vengeance. Labels: i spoke |
